OWLS!
Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Owls!
Owls who?
That's right! Owls 'Hoo'!
I just finished watching Legend of the Guardians: Owls of the Ga'Hoole. Fantastic movie. The owlets looked super fluffy, the characters were lovable, the slow-motion action scenes were superb - overall a great movie to watch.
"Fans of Harry Potter are responsible for a recent wave of owl disappearances in India by taking them from the wild and keeping them as pets, says India's environment minister. That, and they're being used in black magic rituals. [AFP ]"

I just finished watching Legend of the Guardians: Owls of the Ga'Hoole. Fantastic movie. The owlets looked super fluffy, the characters were lovable, the slow-motion action scenes were superb - overall a great movie to watch.
While watching the movie, I found myself trying to guess the different owls shown. I picked out horned owls, elf owls, snow owls, and what looked like barn owls? The animators did a great job keeping the owls in their right proportions - it made a big difference when the different owls were fighting.
On the same note, what's with owls these days? Maybe not so much now, but I recall a couple months ago when owls were all the rage. There were owl purses, sweaters, pendants, rings, earrings, laptop covers, etc. What made them suddenly so popular and...cute? I honestly didn't understand the fad but after watching this movie, owls are pretty awesome. Check out these 10 Awesome Facts About Owls:
And while you're at it, read this from Gawker.com:

You know what, owls are cool and all, but to be honest, they are kind of creepy. Anyone remember the scary movie, The Fourth Kind? The film was basically about strange sessions this psychologist was experiencing with her patients. There is a repeated motif between her patients and she finds herself being constantly watched by this owl outside her window. No spoilers - but shit goes down. The movie is not intensely scary, but there are creepy moments that linger.

Sweet dreams, my loves.

Protect your banana with the Banana Bunker - YouTube
So among other fruits...I extremely dislike bananas.
This video is...excessive. Really protect your banana? And thanks for the sexual innuendos.
Bananas can die.

Baby eating lemon mix - YouTube
Oh, so cute! When I was watching this video I didn't want to laugh too hard because I can relate. And it's just really hard not to because you see the genuine surprise and shock at how sour a lemon can be!! I also see a bit of contempt in these babies' faces. I mean, don't you trust your mother to give you food that is edible? You would think your parent is reliable enough to give you food that you would like. Or at least food that dont seem to instantly kill your mouth.

Glaucus atlanticus
When I was watching videos of jellyfish off Youtube, this blue sea slug came up. It is super tiny, about 3 cm in length and feeds on the Portuguese Man o' War. Its gas filled sac in its stomach allows it to float on the surface to reach the jellies. It also absorbs the venom from the jellyfish for its own self-defense.
Super cool. Oh, and I forgot to mention it has tiny teeth!

Pamela Anderson As The Virgin Mary Video On 'A Russell Peters Christmas Special' For CTV
I will be watching this for my break...I wonder how terrible it is

Garbage Solution
I was thinking the same thing...and who says we would have to send people to deliver the trash? I'm sure we can develop something with navigation to go straight to the black hole...considering the hole's gravitation pull, with a big push from Earth, I think the trash can find its way easily.
By the way, the closest black hole is only about 1600 light years away. So...if we develop the ability to travel at the speed of light, it would only take us about 1600 years to get there. And taking into consideration that time is relative, we would age much slower -- but I'm not sure if we would make it to the end of 1600 years even if we aged tremendously slow...but why would we even send people to the black hole?? Why survive 1600 years just to be obliterated? Come on.
Type II Supernova
Type II Supernova are the coolest. At the end of the high mass star's life, the star experiences a supernova explosion. As protons and electrons fuse to become neutrons/neutrinos, this massive star becomes a neutron star. In Type II Supernovas, "in-falling material hit the neutron star surface generating an intense "supersonic shockwave" that blows the outer parts of the star apart in a Supernova Explosion." Keep in mind all this happens in less than a second.
Super awesome. The flash from the explosions makes the rings glow.
December Second Twenty-Eleven
Remember Dance Dance Revolution? Today in the arcade at John's Incredible Pizza, I definitely had a flash back. I remember spending time in middle school just tapping away on the mat at my grandmother's house. Or playing for hours after our weekly Girl Scouts meetings. It was one of those games I was so addicted to that after a while, I started seeing arrows going up the walls of my house. Core. If I can get the game with the pad, I'd be willing to drop money on a TV for room in my apartment. Dedication. 200 COMBO!
Anyways, I had a pretty good day today. It started off at 8 AM, but then I decided I wasn't feeling well enough to stay awake, so I slept till 11 AM. From there I went to Day St. and purchased a gift for Letters to Santa. This is a Christmas Program that Honors puts on every winter. UCR students "adopt" an elementary school child and grants their Christmas wish. My little girl asked for a bead set. Next Friday we will go to the elementary school and deliver our gifts to our students - Cant Wait!!
Classes didn't start till 2 today - last classes of the quarter!! Today in Dirty30 we had a Child Birth Panel. Speakers shared their experiences in pregnancy or as a parent...apparently the pain you feel while having contractions makes having an epidural feel like nothing. That blows my mind. A needle into your spine = nothing...I'm so fucked.
So one more class goes by...4 hours later, the Honors Peer Mentors meet at John's Incredible Pizza for our annual Holiday Social. It was so much fun. The food was kind of bad, but the arcade was pretty awesome. We all got $5 to spend so we played a few games, rode a mini roller coaster, and battled it off on DDR. I had a great time with my friends Becky, Corey, Paige, & Jackie. I am really glad I have gotten a chance to make such good friends this year and to be a part of the Honors family.
Now that I have grown some roots here at UCR, I dont really know how I feel about transferring. Even though I submitted my UC application this Wednesday, I feel like my application was not very good. My personal statement was written 2 hours prior to submission, I did not have any documents to record my classes/grades/AP scores correctly...so there is a good chance that my application will not even be considered due to inaccurate data. There goes $350. Well, in any case, I am happy here at UCR and applying was primarily just to appease my parents. Thanksgiving at home just was not pleasant because my mother was upset about me not wanting to transfer anymore.
Anyways, tonight I will try to stay up as late as I can. I spent the last hour going through magazines and ripping out pictures that I liked. Hopefully for the rest of the night I can do some damage for Race&Ethnicity and perhaps do some research on Orlan / Marc Quinn.
One more week and I am outs. Lates.
P.S. Below is me and my friends Becky & Corey

Mother Weed
While I was home for Thanksgiving this past weekend, I shared with my mom about the dream I had about 3 weeks back. It was the one where my family and I were Natives and we smoked weed for about 3 hours...well, in response, my mother told me that she in fact actually really wants to try some bud.
Cool beans.
Deschanel Sisters
Maybe I'm a little behind, but I was very excited to find out that Emily and Zooey are sisters!!

Emily plays Brennan from my favorite TV show Bones
And Zooey is in this year's new hit, New Girl

Lady Gaga - Marry The Night: The Prelude Pathétique - YouTube
Lady Gaga - Marry The Night: The Prelude Pathétique - YouTube: "
I really like what Gaga says about not telling the truth, but only showing her memories in an artistic way. A lot of art artists produce about themselves or history is really idealized and especially self-portraiture, what you see is reconstructed, remodeled, and played out. But I wonder in doing so, is Gaga really being more honest as she says?

David Gandy (Again)
I found this image while perusing online. Love him. But I also like this photo. It seems to be playing off the Pygmalion myth - of course the image of the perfect man would be David Gandy. There should be absolutely no argument. None.
